The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Isaiahh Lowdermilk in the 5th round with the 156th pick overall. Lowdermilk went to West Elk High School, where he became All-State in football and basketball. He received a scholarship from the University of Wisconsin, almost unheard of for anyone playing 8-man football.
This was one of the more controversial picks in the draft. Lowdermilk was expected to go at the end of the 6th or the 7th round if he was drafted at all. The Steelers had to trade a future 4th round pick to get that 5th round pick. The NFL world wonders who decided to pull the trigget on the trade and who Pittsburgh thought might take him before their 6th round pick, number 216 overall.
