It is high school basketball tournament week in Kansas and Oklahoma this week. For the first time Altoona-Midway is hosting a basketball tournament. The Milburn Apt tournament is named after the most famous person from the area, an Air Force pilot who became the first person to fly Mach 3. He did so for less than a minute before crashing his jet, killing him instantly.
The Jets have had to switch both the December and January tournaments because they have not been competitive lately. The Yates Center tournament switched three teams so those clubs formed a new December tournament hosted by Marais des Cygnes. It was harder for the Jets to find a January tournament they could be competitive in so they created their own. The tournament is a four team round robin affair with games Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
