Today was the 158th anniversary of the announcement in Galveston, Texas of the end of slavery. This has been a federal holiday for two years now. Other than not getting any mail today, it was business as usual today. I have to go back to work tonight.

Delivery for thee, but not for me
I found out at work last night that Wally World’s definitely offering home delivery next month. Unfortunately when I saw the map of the delivery area, I ended up a couple of miles outside the area. Even though I live closer to another store, I am less likely to be in its delivery are thanContinue reading “Delivery for thee, but not for me”
Summer has arrived
Just a few days before solstice, warm temperatures have arrived. I bought a new window fan to replace one that stopped working this week. Today I actually needed it as the temperature reached 88 degrees. By Tuesday, it will reach the 90s on a regular basis.
Wally World delivers eventually
The management announced this week that our Walmart is going to offer home delivery. They have a target date and will announce it as soon as they can hire drivers.
The Amish have arrived
About a decade ago a small group of Amish arrived in neighboring Labette County. Last month, three families have moved to the area south and west of Independence. This would put them near the airport and the Little House on the Prairie Museum. The museum has an old post office and one room schoolhouse thatContinue reading “The Amish have arrived”
Rearranging the rocks
We had a big storm last night. It was big enough to bring out the county’s road crews out for the next week to scrape the dirt roads, including the ones I live on. Some of them will get some gravel put on them. Since we are still in rainy season, the repair is shortContinue reading “Rearranging the rocks”
Crappy Sunday
Sunday I drove the box truck to Sperry, or more specifically a store in the middle of nowhere. I guess they had weather up here Saturday morning because just a mile from the store there was a trampoline that landed against a fence a quarter mile from the nearest house. The crew got the restContinue reading “Crappy Sunday”
Rain Delay Saturday
One of the reasons Tulsa Tough is held when it is, is to race in a drier time of year. In the dozen years I have been driving the box truck that supplies rest stops on the Fondo courses, we have never had rain during the Fondo races. This year we had a storm comeContinue reading “Rain Delay Saturday”
Back to the grind
Got back from Tulsa Tough this afternoon. Normally I take the who)e week off, but because I didn’t have enough time off, I have to go back to work tonight. This might be tougher than working the bicycle race.
Rain Delay?
Got a text from my boss at Tulsa Tough. There could be a delay in today’s Fondo start. If there is there is a very good possibility the Gran Fondo course, and one of my two stops could be eliminated. I will know about 6am, just before I would normally head downtown to pick upContinue reading “Rain Delay?”
