The entire county has been in extreme drought status for three weeks. Last week Caney declared a drought emergency, banning most outdoor watering. Coffeyville is expected to do the same in the next month. There is little chance of rain in the next ten days and no chance of any rain helping.

Last gasp of summer weather
I took out my AC window unit last week. This week temperatures are going back into the 100s. This would not be so bad, but the lows are above 70 for most of the week. I don’t want to think about how bad things would be if I bad to deal with heat island effectContinue reading “Last gasp of summer weather”
Patrick takes Charlie Home
Carlton’s choke in the last round wasn’t enough to keep Patrick Cripps from taking the Brownlow Medal for best and fairest player during the 2022 AFL season. Not only did he need the maximum three votes for that game, he needed to get a two game suspension overturned. The Brownlow gala normally kick off GrandContinue reading “Patrick takes Charlie Home”
Swans down Pies in thriller.
Sydney beat Collingwood 95-94 in the other AFL preliminary final. The Swans led 88-62 at three quarter time and withstood a furious comeback in the last five minutes. Geelong has never met Sydney in a Grand Final.
Cats stomp Lions
Geelong crushed Bribane 120-49 to advance to next Friday night’s AFL Grand Final. Collingwood plays Sydney for the other Grand Final berth. A Collingwood win would not only be a rematch of the qualifying Final, but the 2011 Grand Final. Collingwood only lost three games that year, all to Geelong, including the Grand Final.
Fall Cleaning
Started the fall cleaning and realized I needed more storage bins. Fortunately Wally World had them on clearance. I also got some Swiss chard plants on sale at my favorite local greenhouse. Back to work tonight.
Cats’ milestones and finals
The AFL makes a big deal about milestones games. This week Geelong hosts Brisbane for a Grand Final berth. It is the 150th game for Jed Bews, all at Geelong. Coach Chris Scott will make his 500th appearance playing and coaching, ironically coaching against the team he played for. Joel Selwood will tie Michael Tuck’sContinue reading “Cats’ milestones and finals”
Breakfast, Coffee, and the Morning Paper
Since the big city papers pulled out of the area, I tried to get the local Saturday papers to at least get the high school football results. Since neither paper available could get the results in, I thought I would go on Tuesday morning when both papers would print their next edition. This would haveContinue reading “Breakfast, Coffee, and the Morning Paper”
Urinalism, NFL edition
The NFL season started last weekend, but you won’t know that if you read the local papers. The dailies may have an article from the Kansas City Star about the Chiefs, but even getting the scores of the other games is not going to happen. This is the first start of a major sports seasonContinue reading “Urinalism, NFL edition”
Saudi scum slam planes into buildings day
On this anniversary, bloggers are posting what they did and where they were on that day. In my case, I was at work in a plant that had no outside contact except when a tanker driver dropped a load. Since their information was third hand at best, nothing made sense, so we kept bottling untilContinue reading “Saudi scum slam planes into buildings day”
