I can just see the leaves popping up through the soil, but they have not spread out enough to properly identify them. Not bad for a week in the not best conditions.
Books have no value
I am surprised at how much the cost of used books have gone down this century. Libraries literally cannot give them away. The few remaining used bookstores in the area are shedding books at a quarter a piece as they exit the business. Even the how to books aren’t selling anymore. I picked up a dozen for a dollar at an abandoned bookstore repossessed by the landlord. I wonder what people are using for reference material

Greenhouse, we hardly knew you
Normally mid February is the time to set up the mini greenhouses to start seeds for March or April planting. With temperatures expected to be in the 70s for the indefinite future, I may have to skip the greenhouse altogether.
Is the promotion worth it?
I stayed late at work today because one of our two team leads called in and several people left early. Normally team leads come in two hours early and can stay two hours late or even more. Going home early is not an option. Even with a four day workweek, I have to rethink about is it really worth it. The pay raise is significant and would put me over $20 an hour for the first time in my life. But 11-13 hour days every day at my age might be too much.
Good nags
I ordered seeds from Territorial earlier this month. I got a new catalog today. I ripped the previous one accidentally, so I can’t just throw this one away like I normally do.
Drought easing everywhere else
Almost all of Kansas and Oklahoma are not in any drought status according to droughtmonitor.unl.edu. Unfortunately I am in the one area that drought status hasn’t changed in over two months. Most of the county is under moderate drought status, with the extreme western part under severe drought.
Planting outside
I took advantage of the warm spell and planted some oxheart carrots, wild arugula, and cherry Belle radishes in my raised beds under window covers. Tomorrow I will have to put the row covers on top because a cold front will move through, dropping low temperatures to the mid 20s.
Planting
Planting Time
Tomorrow I will plant some frost tolerant crops in my raised beds. I am looking at Kale, Swiss chard, radishes and carrots. It may be time to start some seed onions in my west facing bedroom window. I already have almost as much as I can start in my south facing living room windows, so the bedroom windows are the next best bet.
Looking at a transfer
I was talking to one of the team leads at Wally World and he mentioned there were several team lead positions open in Indy and one in Coffeyville. The one in Coffeyville would be 1-10pm and involve what I was doing when I started at Wally World. I like my current job, but the raise would be a significant even after losing a large shift differential for overnights. When I get back to work on Thursday I will have to update my career preferences.

Snow last night, gone today
I got off work this morning and the roads were clear and wet. As I drove south towards home there was more and more snow stuck to the ground, but none on the road. It wasn’t like the county put sand or salt on the road. The temperature on the asphalt was just above freezing. The dirt roads were very muddy. The last of the snow should be gone by the time I go to work tonight.
