Tomorrow will have a high in the 60s. The next morning will be below freezing with highs in the 40s the rest of the week. A white Christmas is now unlikely, but temperatures will stay below freezing most of that week.
Beef found
After three weeks my beef guy called yesterday. I didn’t notice because I gave up on him and don’t check my phone or even carry it with me unless I am expecting a call. My quarter should be here Tuesday night. In the meantime I started to fill up my freezers. Guess it is time to cook up as much as I can the next two nights.
Back to the grind
After a long weekend, I have to go back to work tonight. The nice thing about taking two days off at the beginning of the week is coming back to a three day workweek. The two days off after will almost be like another vacation.
White Christmas
The best definition of White Christmas was an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day. The year I moved to Kansas it snowed the day after Thanksgiving and was still on the ground after New Year’s Day. I was out of town over Christmas, so I missed it. There has never been a White Christmas here since.
There is a chance of a snow storm the week before Christmas. This year I would have had a three day weekend if I was at my last job. Unfortunately at Wally World I only get Christmas Eve off.
Feels like spring
Temperatures are staying above freezing and I got my first seed catalog yesterday. Baker Creek is the closest big mail order seed company to me. I have to watch the budget this year. The garbage bill arrived. My garbage bill is over 70 dollars a month, billed quarterly in advance. I hate to think how much my other utility bills are going to go up.
How not to get publicity
As great as Australian Rules Football is to watch, you wou.d think it would be more popular than it is. One can point to several factors including incompetent public relations.
In the latest debacle, the AFL decided to release the Round One schedule. During the 2020 season the AFL had to release three weeks at a time because of the WuFlu restrictions. Since then the AFL has decided to drop the schedule a few weeks at a time.
What made this release a debacle was the timing. Some genius decided the release should occur at the same time the Socceroos kicked off their World Cup playoff match against Argentina. This was a feature, not a bug. This guy should be terminated and I don’t mean fired.
100 days until footy starts
The AFL season starts March 16 with Carlton taking on Richmond. Geelong plays Collingwood the following evening at the MCG. Normally the defending premiers would kick off the season in a rematch of the previous year’s Grand Final. The AFL wanted the Cats to play on Friday night and who better than against the team that gave them the most trouble last year.
Christmas Bone US
In the last quarter century, the Christmas bonus has gone the way of the typewriter. I have gone from a week’s pay to a 20 dollar gift certificate to a extra discount. At Wally World we will download a code to get a one time 15% discount on most items in the store.
I have two weeks to figure out what I need to stock up on. I can’t buy too much stuff because my property tax and car insurance are due before the end of the year.
Vacation
At Wally World you can roll your vacation and 0ersonal time over to next year. I have a week of vacation time left. I will take a couple of days off this week and roll the rest over to next year. Even staying at home is better than having to go to work.
Big day in sports
I won’t have to hear much about soccer for another four years as the US got smoked by the Netherlands 3-1. In football Kansas State won the Big 12 championship game, which is like being the prettiest girl at an all-ugly contest. Locally, Coffeyville lost its NJCAA playoff game to Hutchinson 38-7. Only three more months before the Australian Football League starts.
