I posted earlier about not getting paid holidays. The in town garbagemen, who work for a private company, get the basic six paid holidays including Thursday. The garbagemen on my route only get Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day as paid holidays.
Where’s the beef?
I ordered a quarter beef that was due Nov. 12th. I have not heard from the guy since. I hope it does not arrive while on vacation. Otherwise I will be at home. The good news is I did not have to put a deposit down. The only money I am out is for the freezer I bought to put it in. I have a co-worker who is willing to sell half a hog if the beef doesn’t show up
Think our Thanksgiving meal was early?
Our Thanksgiving dinner was held a week before the holiday. This actually makes sense. It is easier to find a caterer and Thanksgiving week, which starts today, gets a little hectic even at a store as small as ours.
Our local Wally World announced our Christmas lunch would be Dec 9. I happen to be off that day and I hope to be out of town. That depends on if a certain package arrives.
Warm, wet Thanksgiving
After tonight, a week long warming trend will keep temperatures above freezing for the rest of the month. Other than Thanksgiving Day, it will be dry too. Time to clean up the yard. There’s a lot of brush to cut.
Thanksgiving dinner
We had fried chicken instead of turkey, but the dinner was a hit. Ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and rolls. It was a lot better than the usual pizza dinner.
Early Turkey Day dinner.
Wally World is giving us a turkey dinner tonight. Any time I don’t have to pack a lunch is going to be a good night. We get a one time 15% discount on one purchase a year. The boss makes sure to buy any cleaning supplies for next year that time. I think I might do the same with clothes.
Holidays in retail
The one thing I miss about my other jobs in warehousing and manufacturing is paid holidays. I never got less than the big six that almost everyone gets. Everyone that does not work retail that is. At Wally World we get two, Thanksgiving and Christmas, neither of which are paid.
On overnights we get the night before off. Since Wednesday night is my night off, nothing changes Thanksgiving week. For Christmas, I get Saturday night off this year. I can use some of my paid time off to make up for the holiday. I haven’t decided if I will yet. I can choose to roll over my time into next year, an option I never had at jy previous jobs.
SsssssssNO
For the second time this month, it tried to snow here. The first attempt didn’t even hit the ground before melting. Last night’s snow actually hit the ground and stuck to fields and cars even if it melted on the roads and in town. The next morning it could be seen on hay bales and rooftops, but was gone by noon.
The weather forecast calls for warmer temperatures during the Thanksgiving weekend.
Local football done.
The last local high school was knocked out of the playoffs Friday night. Both of the community colleges won. Indy, better known as Last Chance U, finishes its season at 4-5. Coffeyville finishes at 8-2 with the possibility of a bowl game.
Eventless days
While I had my weekend, Wally World had its first black Friday type sales event. Like those of the previous two years, it was a bust. I get tomiss the next one as well. All of us do have to be here for the actual Black Friday event, which the way things are going will be a bigger bust than the last two years.
