I considered riding the bike to work last night. The temperature was at the upper end of the range I would consider riding in. Unfortunately I slept too late to ride. Tonight won’t work because I have to get groceries tomorrow morning when I get off work. I have a doctor’s appointment Wednesday, so I will get a shorter ride in then. At some point I have to quit worrying about 95-100 degree temperatures and just get on the bike.
Cats Win.
In spite of the name of this blog, I haven’t posted much about the footy lately. Geelong beat West Coast on the road yesterday to go to 9-4 and reach fourth on the ladder. Yes, the Eagles are currently holding the wooden spoon, but considering the Cats’ legendary inability to win after a bye week, any win is cause to celebrate.
Shrinkflation
Prices are up, packages are smaller, and quality is down as well. Backwoods Home Magazine announced that the current issue is printed on cheaper paper and contrary to what they say
, you can feel the difference. Oh, and I just added a category tag.
Heat Wall
The temperature is in the upper 90s and the lows will be in the upper 70s. I may have to break down and put the window unit in now instead of waiting until July 4 like I usually do. Last year I never put the AC unit in.
Not in Sync
I go back to work tonight after a week of vacation. With my shift and having Tuesday and Wednesday nights off, my schedule is out of sync with most people. This makes having a social life difficult, fortunately I am not a social animal.
The non traditional schedule has some advantages. I can deal with doctors, governments and other 9 to 5 Monday thru Friday institutions without having to take a day off of work. Tulsa Tough is having a thank you party for the volunteers Tuesday night. This is the first year I have the time to go and believe me I will.
Home at Last
I took one look at the weather forecast this morning and decided to leave as soon as the rush hour traffic died down. I remembered to stop in Owasso to pick up the Tulsa World and USA Today since they recently stopped delivering to Coffeyville.. I got home before noon, but not before it got to 90 degrees. After watering the plants, I got in the house and stayed there. Maybe after dinner, I will venture out again.
Sightseeing in Tulsa
I try to spend at least one day of my vacation being a tourist and today was the day. I heard the Tulsa Zoo was a half day zoo, meaning that you could see everything in half a day. I got there right after it opened and saw almost everything in two and a half hours.
The heat started getting to me, so I left to get bike tires that are unavailable locally. I picked up some books at Gardner’s used books and headed back to the hotel. Now comes the moment I dread the most; packing up for the trip back tomorrow. With the heat predicted I plan to leave as soon as the rush hour traffic dies down.

Tulsa Tough, Part two
Got my truck and got a nice surprise. Normally, I drive the box truck on Saturday and Sunday, and do an odd job sometime before the races begin. I get the free t-shirt and sign my liability waiver before I drive. This year, I signed up for tear down Sunday afternoon. They ran out of fat tub of lard size t-shirts Saturday. When I picked up my truck Sunday morning, there was a button down shirt for me. The button shirt is much cooler than a t-shirt.
Today was a long day. When I got back to my room, I soaked in the tub for an hour and am going to bed early.
Surviving the heat wave.
Drove the truck to Kellyville and actually found the key to the water valve. Unfortunately, I started unloading the wrong side of the truck. After figuring out what was supposed to be dropped off, I missed the turn to Slick. Someone took down the sign indicating the turn, Somehow I got to Slick right after the rest stop people showed up.
The rest of the day, I had very little to do until the last rider passed. We loaded the garbage and reusable equipment and I went to Kellyville and did the same. I didn’t realize how tired I was until I finished reloading Kellyville and could barely get in the truck to drive back to Tulsa and refueled the truck for tomorrow. I am going to bed early because I am exhausted.
Heat Wave.
It seems to get hot every year just as Tulsa Tough begins and this year is no exception. The high was 85 in Coffeyville yesterday and 93 in Tulsa today. With a heat index of over 100 all weekend, I am glad I am not one of the riders.
I pulled into town today during afternoon rush hour and spent an hour at Barnes and Noble browsing but buying a lot less than normal today. Since I filled my tank last week, gas has gone from $4.30 to $4.60 a gallon. If inflation gets much worse, this might be the last time I come to Tulsa for quite a while.
