Census Blues

Local 2020 census figures were published in the local weekly and the news for southeast Kansas is bad. Every county lost people and Montgomery led the way with 4000 people fewer than in 2010. Other than a few small towns with fewer than 300 people, the only town to gain population was Pittsburg. Pittsburgh’s increase can probably be explained by an expanding Pitt State University.

Cats in with a win

The AFL is down to its last month and in spite of the drama caused by the WuFlu lockdowns, it looks like they might complete the season. Geelong can clinch a finals berth with a win over defending champion Richmond. This is supposed to be a home game for the Cats, but is being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the home ground for Richmond (as well as Melbourne, Collingwood, Hawthorn, and Essendon). Since fans cannot attend games in Melbourne, the 95,000 seat capacity of the MCG is not needed. The AFL denied Geelong’s request to host the game at their home field, where limited attendance was allowed.

A Cats win would give them a finals berth and a chance at the number one seed overall. A loss would see them struggle to finish in the top four and get two finals games guaranteed. A Richmond win would keep their finals chances alive, while a loss would put their chances on life support.

Down, but not out

Still can’t find a reliable internet provider. I am just posting when I can.

I just realized that 15 years ago today I left Phoenix to move to Kansas. So how am I celebrating? By lying down in bed for most of the last two days. I only manage to get to work because I can afford to take one day off over the next two and a half months or I lose what probably will be the best paying job I can get around here.
