Really bad dreams

I took a nap before work last night. I had a dream I was late to work. I wake up and look at the clock and it says 6 o’ clock. I can see it is still light out and think it is 6am and I slept through my shift. I pinch myself to make sure I am not still dreaming. I look at my phone and finally realise it is 6pm. So I went back to my original plan, go to the laundromat and wash some heavy blankets, then go to work.

High school track

I just found out the Kansas state track meet is going to be a three day affair. Instead of having all classes over a two day meet, they are dividing up by class. 5A and 6A are scheduled for Thursday May 27, 3A and 4A (most of the local schools) May 28 , 1A and 2A May 29. Most seniors will have been out of school for two weeks before the state meet. Underclassmen will have been out for a week.

You have to tip your hat to people willing to come back just to train for a track meet. It’s not like they are going to college on a D1 scholarship. Oh wait……..

To be continued …..

Pissing on your customers part 2

Early Sunday mornings, I like to go to the Woodshed in South Coffeyville, OK and pick up some breakfast biscuits and get the Sunday papers. Our local papers no longer print on Sunday, so I end up getting the Kansas City Star and Tulsa World. It is bad enough both papers have gone from two dollars to four dollars. Both papers are smaller due to the dramatic drop in advertising. But not having any Saturday sports results in the Star is inexcusable. The press deadline for the Sunday Star is 3pm Saturday. It’s not like the paper is printed in Wichita or Omaha. It is printed in Kansas City, along with the Wichita Eagle and dozens of other papers.

Higher prices, less content and less timely. And just to put the cherry on top of this cow pattie, you want us to try your online edition. Yep, you pissed on and pissed off your customers by the numbers. You then have the nerve to ask us to donate to support local journalism. My only donation would be a boot in the backside of the boofhead who thought this was a winning strategy.

Eye of the storm.

We are still expecting rain for the next five days, but there is a break until this evening. I transplanted some of the peppers and my first okra plants.

I never grew okra, since it never grew well on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Here everybody grows okra, so I never bothered until this year. While not as prolific as the blackberry, it does sprout and grow quickly. I should have done this earlier.

In southeast Kansas, the blackberry is a weed and will take over a field if left alone. Fortunately, my neighbor let her brush fire get slightly out of control and burned about a third of my field. Now if I can get the field to dry out, I can get my field back in shape and still have more blackberries that I can eat.

My dehydrator has been busy this spring and will get busier this summer. My blackberries are not going to waste.
