Watermelon up
My watermelons have germinated. This is the first sign of warm weather since they are the first seeds I have not started in a tray before putting them in the garden.
Feeling old
I was just on spacebook and noticed a high school classmate of mine is retiring after 37 years of teaching. She’s not even 60 but teaching in Houston schools makes the mileage add up.
Drought downgraded
According to droughtmonitor.unl.edu most of Montgomery County has gone from extreme to severe drought. The local rivers are filling from runoff well to the north, but the local creeks barely have any water in them. The local spring is flowing at about two gallons a minute, a slight imorovement.
Drought could be ending
According to droughtmonitor.unl.edu we are still in extreme drought status. With all of the rain we have had in the last three weeks, the local rivers are starting to rise. They’re nowhere near flood status, but they are approaching normal levels for this time of year.
Graduation Day
Almost every school in the area is holding their graduation ceremony this afternoon. Grads, try not to sleep through the boring speeches.
Trash Day
Normally I wait for the trash guy to show up before trying to go to sleep. Since he is usually here by 9am, this is not a problem. Today he came at 2pm, ruining what sleep I had. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
Last day for seniors
Except for Cherryvale, whose seniors graduated last week, today was the last day of school for seniors in the area. It gets a bit awkward for those seniors still involved in sports. I have to go to town and pay my property tax today. Since my house is paid for, I have to write a check twice a year and today is the day.
