Trash talking with the Denver Broncos

In 2002 and 2003 US Footy held the national tournament in Kansas City.  It was held in October each year two or three weeks after the AFL Grand Final.  The weekend started with a Friday night reception and registration event. Games were played on Saturday and Sunday with a Saturday night dinner in between.  IContinue reading “Trash talking with the Denver Broncos”

Karen and Kevin meet the Kansas City Power.

I was one of those guys who got hooked on Australian Rules Football in the early 80s when ESPN didn’t have much other programming available and broadcast one or two games per week on tape delay.  When the Phoenix Scorpions were recruiting players in 2001, I decided to give it a try while I hadContinue reading “Karen and Kevin meet the Kansas City Power.”

Don’t fill my breakfast bowl with bullsh1t

I think I am going to try to have honeybees this year so I went to a meeting of the local beekeepers association. Some one commented on my Geelong Cats hoodie I wore to the meeting, mentioning he had been in GEE-long. I can understand seppos mispronuncing juh-LONG, but if you had really been anywhereContinue reading “Don’t fill my breakfast bowl with bullsh1t”

AFL penultimate round

It’s the next to last round and every game has finals implications. Tonight’s game between barely alive Richmond and wooden spoon contender North Melbourne might be a stretch, but two of Tiger’s greats are retiring after the game. This should fill the MCG at least. The Cats are in a must win to stay aliveContinue reading “AFL penultimate round”

AFL traffic jam

With five games to go in the Australian Football League regular season, just two games separate 5th place from 14th. With eight teams going to finals, nobody clinching a finals berth, and only two teams mathematically eliminated; every game this week has finals implications. It should be interesting to see Fox Sports decide which gamesContinue reading “AFL traffic jam”

Cats win, Finals race crowded

Geelong got the expected win over hapless North Melbourne. The large margin of victory boosted their scoring percentage, which is the tiebreaker. With twelve of the eighteen teams having records between 10-6 and 6-10 with six games to play, the race for the last five finals berths is starting to heat up. Geelong currently holdsContinue reading “Cats win, Finals race crowded”

Footy comes to Kansas in a big way

As far as I know there has never been a game of Australian Rules Football played in Kansas. This changes on Saturday as 16 teams from across the eastern two thirds of the United States come to Olathe for a combined Eastern and Central super regional tournament. I’m thinking about calling in on Friday nightContinue reading “Footy comes to Kansas in a big way”

Cox to play his 100th game.

Ten years ago Mason Cox had no idea what Australian Rules Football was. Barring an unfortunate mishap, he will play his 100th game against North Melbourne Saturday morning. The 100 game AFL milestone signifies you are a legitimate player at the highest level. This might get overshadowed by Steele Sidebottom, who is scheduled to playContinue reading “Cox to play his 100th game.”
