The story of how Mason Cox went from high school soccer goalie in Texas to working out with the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team to playing for the men’s team to the AFL has to be seen to be believed. You all will get your chance tomorrow night.

Anzac Day
Tuesday is Anzac Day, the anniversary of the Australia New Zealand Army Corps landing in Gallipoli in 1915. Since the last of those veterans is long gone, it has become a day of remembrance for Australian veterans. Among the many events is the Collingwood vs Essendon footy match. Collingwood and Essendon are second and thirdContinue reading “Anzac Day”
Cats win, back in the eight.
Since every AFL team plays every other team at least once each season, a Grand Final rematch is guaranteed. The rematch rarely resembles the previous Grand Final but this one did. The Cats won 130-37 with the game not as close as the final score indicated. Geelong is currently seventh on the ladder, but needContinue reading “Cats win, back in the eight.”
Gather Round was a success
After last week’s Gather Round, where all 18 AFL sides played in Adelaide, the AFL decided to extend it for the next four years. Perth,Sydney, and Brisbane were probably hoping the Gather Round would be rotated among the non-Victorian cities. Unfortunately the AFL decided this week to hold them all in Adelaide.
Cats win
Geelong beat West Coast 136-89 to get back in contention for a finals berth. Next week they play Sydney which should reveal if the Cats are serious contenders for the flag.
Footy Festival
This weekend the AFL borrowed a page from rugby and decided to hold an entire round of games in one city. This year Adelaide got the honors. The Cats play West Coast early tomorrow morning.

The large margin of victory assured Hawthorn would have the worst scoring percentage of all of the 1-3 teams, replacing the Cats as the last place team. The Cats managed to have the best record of the 1-3 teams,Continue reading “Cats win, hand spoon to Hawthorn”
Flyers start footy season
Most clubs are starting footy season this month and the former Tulsa Buffaloes are no exception. The Oklahoma Flyers are having their intrasquad scrimmage this Saturday. Can’t get there due to my schedule, but I will catch a game sometime this summer.
Missing the point
In the 80s the then VFL decided to play their games over the whole weekend instead of playing all of the games on Saturday afternoon. Until the latest expansion to 18 teams they did not play any games on Good Friday but played their normal three games on Easter Sunday. Talk about missing the pointContinue reading “Missing the point”
Cat-astrophe
Geelong lost to Gold Coast yesterday. With Hawthorn’s upset over North Melbourne, not only do the Cats have the wooden spoon, they are the only winless team in the league. This was supposed to be the team that defended the premiership. Really hard to do if you can’t even reach the finals.
