Long term we are still in severe drought. Recent rains have moistened the ground but have done nothing to relieve the long term drought. So even though we are in severe drought status, I never had to water the garden until yesterday. With no rain in the forecast I will probably do the same tomorrowContinue reading “Short and long drought”

Transplants
I took advantage of the break in the temperature and transplanted the okra today. The pepper seeds finally germinated and should be ready for transplant this weekend.
Planting late summer crops
I started some late peppers and okra yesterday. I hope to find some indeterminate tomatoes to go along with the ones I started ear.ier in the spring. Not so hot July

Watermelon up
My watermelons have germinated. This is the first sign of warm weather since they are the first seeds I have not started in a tray before putting them in the garden.
Plants arrive
I ordered some Yacon plants a few months ago and they finally arrived today. The boxes holding them were battered, but the plants seem to be OK. Give them a couple of days to acclimate and into the large container they go.
May Flowers
The rains in April usually bring flowers by May 1. This year the drought delayed blooms, but only by a few days.
Belated planting
I meant to get some of my starts planted last week before I went out of town, but came down with a real bad cold. I finally got them in their permanent home today. Now to get the chipper fired up and take care of the downed tree limbs.
More planting
Tomorrow I get to put the okra in the garden and start some more peppers since the first ones have germinated. Time to get the last of the spring greens in before they bolt before maturity. Spring is just flying by.
More planting
In spite of the short weekend, I got some tomato seeds started and planted some rhubarb and gooseberry bushes I bought last week. Hope to get more done with the much later sunsets. By the way, the okra I started two weeks ago looks like it will be ready for transplant next week.
