Persephone day will not arrive for another month, but veggie growth is slowing down. Cooler temperatures are not much help to tomatoes and peppers either. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s next week, but no frost yet. Time to close the windows and wash the heavy blankets that have been stored all summer.Continue reading “Fall has fell”

Fall Cleaning
With more rain in the forecast the next two days. It is time for fall cleaning. And with mild temperatures for the next week, the yard cleaning will follow.
Heat Wave
Temperatures in the 90s are rare here in October, but the last two days were a last gasp of summer. Just now, rain has put an end to that for the year. Temperatures should drop and stay in the 70s, with lows in the 40s and 50s for the next ten days.
Persephone Preparations
Persephone Days are days with less than ten hours of daylight. At my latitude this runs froom November 20 to January 19. Plant growth all but stops during this time. Last Minute Planting
Today was one of the few days that the weather was great. The temperature barely reached 80, with a bit more rain than yesterday. I planted some arugula in a little used bed today. Frost should not be an issue, but Persephone Day may arrive soon. At that point all I will be getting isContinue reading “Last Minute Planting”
Rain at Last
After 22 days of dry weather, we finally got about half an inch of rain. Not enough to add to my water storage, but enough to get the plants a good soaking.
End of the growing season
The radishes I planted two weeks ago finally came up. Tomorrow I plant Swiss Chard and Kale. Time to get the covers ready. Hopefully I won’t need them for a month, but I could get an early frost.
Wasted day
Forgot about the yard work, but got rid of some junk in the house. Call it a draw.
