Local playoffs rescheduled
There are a few playoff games that have been moved to Thursday night because of storms predicted for Friday night. Among them are Caney and Chanute home games. Some games were already scheduled for Thursday because of lack of stadiums in the Wichita and Kansas City areas.
Football game closed to fans.
In Delaware, Friday’s game between Seaford and Laurel was closed to most of the public because of alleged threats of violence. As the home team Laurel allowed one or two parents/guardians if they were in Lauren’s database and had photo ID. Seaford was only allowed to have players and coaches at the game. This hasContinue reading “Football game closed to fans.”

Kansas high school football ends the regular season this week. Most of the local teams are looking good heading for the playoffs. Caney is in a similar position asContinue reading “High School football ends this week.”
Homecoming

Urinalism, NFL edition
The NFL season started last weekend, but you won’t know that if you read the local papers. The dailies may have an article from the Kansas City Star about the Chiefs, but even getting the scores of the other games is not going to happen. This is the first start of a major sports seasonContinue reading “Urinalism, NFL edition”
Official shortage
I missed Altoona-Midway’s home opener because of the 2:30 start time today. For me it was too late to stay up and too early to wake up. It turns out that was not the only game affected by the shortage of officials. Crest’s 8-man game with Chase County also started at 2:30. Until the WuFluContinue reading “Official shortage”
Official shortage
Altoona-Midway crushed Chetopa 46-0 in a game that ended midway through the third quarter due to the 45 point mercy rule in 6-man and 8-man football in Kansas. They will host Waverly in a game that will start at 2:30 Friday because of a shortage of officials. Southeast Kansas has not had the problems theContinue reading “Official shortage”
Football is back
Coffeyville CC smoked Highland at home Saturday night 37-0. High school starts Friday. The Parsons Sun/Chanute Tribune comes out with their football preview edition tomorrow. Our local papers, I have no idea. Last time, they came out with it Saturday after high schools started play. I guess no one told them pre means before. ThisContinue reading “Football is back”
