I took advantage of the long term wetter, cooler trend and planted some beans this morning. It is a little warm for greens, but in two or three weeks that should change.

Big storm, little rain.
A storm just came through this evening. It didn’t provide any rain, but it brought temperatures below 70 degrees. The long range forecast shows a lot of highs in the 80s. Another storm is coming overnight which could bring more rain.
Dodging jury duty
I went to work last night and forgot I had jury duty today. If I had remembered, I could have called the jury hotline to find out if I had to appear. I had just enough time to get off work, go home, find my summons, and look online to see if I had toContinue reading “Dodging jury duty”
Back to School
Some area schools started this week, the rest start Monday. Gatorade and juice sales are down this week at Wally World and it is not because the temperature has finally below 100 degrees either. I am ordering a quarter beef in November, so I bought a 7 cubic foot freezer to go along with theContinue reading “Back to School”
Car up
I tried to call for a tow this morning, but my cell phone died. I rode the bike home to charge the phone. I got a ride back to town and called for a tow. The driver figured out what was wrong and didn’t charge. A lot of problems solved.
Dodging raindrops
What little chance we had of rain this week has evaporated. There’s rain to the north and the south, but not here for the last month. At least the temperatures will drop a litt,e.
Not quite as hot
It is still hot, but it looks like the 100 degree days are done. It is fair and rodeo week in Coffeyville and it usually rains enough to ruin one night. Not this year during the worst drought since I moved here in 2006. We might get a tenth of an inch Tuesday. At leastContinue reading “Not quite as hot”
Garbage sales
I have been noticing a lack of garage sales this year. People do not want to waste a weekend waiting to collect peanuts. What is available is mostly junk and used clothes. With newspaper advertising rates being high for the number of people you reach, sellers are using social media to sell items that haveContinue reading “Garbage sales”
Election Day
Today was primary election day in Kansas. I got to vote in the primary today for the first time. I am still an independent voter, but there was a constitutional amendment on the ballot. I got to the polling place today and there was a line for my precinct, but not the other precincts. ThereContinue reading “Election Day”
Rain at last
We got about an inch of rain today. It’s not enough to add to my water storage, but at least I won’t have to worry about watering what’s left of my garden. Today felt like fall and if tomorrow is the same I might catch up on yard work.
