…get out of Kansas. With a heat index peaking above 110, you need to find a place with air conditioning. At least it cools off at night unlike Phoenix.

Fireworks season is over
I didn’t get a chance to shoot off any fireworks this year because my days off came after the season ended. Next year, I will have the Fourth of July off. When I moved to Kansas it was the first time I lived in a state I could shoot off legal fireworks. For the firstContinue reading “Fireworks season is over”
Heat warning ahead.
We have managed to avoid 100 degrees so far this summer. This week should bring an end to that.
The great flood
15 years ago today, Southeast Kansas was hit with a major flood. Hundreds of houses were destroyed by water. In Coffeyville, they were destroyed by oil because the refinery could not shut down in time. Due to the low cost of housing, most of these homes were never replaced. The refinery now owns most ofContinue reading “The great flood”
Heat Wall
The temperature is in the upper 90s and the lows will be in the upper 70s. I may have to break down and put the window unit in now instead of waiting until July 4 like I usually do. Last year I never put the AC unit in.
Home at Last
I took one look at the weather forecast this morning and decided to leave as soon as the rush hour traffic died down. I remembered to stop in Owasso to pick up the Tulsa World and USA Today since they recently stopped delivering to Coffeyville.. I got home before noon, but not before it gotContinue reading “Home at Last”
More Dusting

According to droughtmonitor.unl.edu my land is on the border between moderate and severe drought. Thanksgiving Day itContinue reading “More Dusting”
Supply Chain Woes
Living in rural Kansas, we have not had as many empty shelves as the large cities. All but the poorest have large pantries and have been drawing down their stocks when something they need is not available. People are thinking ” Do I really need that?” when they see the price increases. They are alsoContinue reading “Supply Chain Woes”
Bad Timing
Schools in every part of Kansas are going to remote learning this week, although not every school is. They are allowed five days thie year and most are choosing to go remote now to take advantage of Monday’s MLK holiday. Some smaller districts have stopped playing games due to lack of players. Surprisingly, those thatContinue reading “Bad Timing”
Dodging Bullets
In the last months we have had light dustings of dry snow. In each case the east coast got a major traffic delaying storm the next day. Glad I live here.
