…In Kansas. Most school that didn’t end school yesterday, are having a half day today. This is especially important for the 19 high schools that host track regionals today.

WuFlu Sports
Most of our junior college sports are being played during the spring season. Coffeyville hosts arch rival Independence on Sunday at 1:30 pm. I don’t know what is weirder, juco football in spring or on Sunday. Juco football should be played on Saturdays during the fall. And if you have lights, you should play atContinue reading “WuFlu Sports”
High school track
I just found out the Kansas state track meet is going to be a three day affair. Instead of having all classes over a two day meet, they are dividing up by class. 5A and 6A are scheduled for Thursday May 27, 3A and 4A (most of the local schools) May 28 , 1A andContinue reading “High school track”
Eye of the storm.
We are still expecting rain for the next five days, but there is a break until this evening. I transplanted some of the peppers and my first okra plants. I never grew okra, since it never grew well on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Here everybody grows okra, so I never bothered until this year. While notContinue reading “Eye of the storm.”
Deja vu all over again

Rain rain go away….
The forecast here calls for rain every day for the next ten days. Just thought I would get my whining out of the way.

Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer in southeast Kansas and happens to be the day I put the fan in the window. On the Fourth of July, I replace theContinue reading “Cool breezes”
Graduation
Hard to believe, but high school seniors are getting out of school this week. For some, this is their last day of school. Commencement will be this weekend with most school districts choosing Saturday afternoon. Athletes on the track, baseball, and softball teams have regionals next week and state tournaments the week after. Senior athletesContinue reading “Graduation”
Steelers draft local kid
The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Isaiahh Lowdermilk in the 5th round with the 156th pick overall. Lowdermilk went to West Elk High School, where he became All-State in football and basketball. He received a scholarship from the University of Wisconsin, almost unheard of for anyone playing 8-man football. This was one of the more controversial picksContinue reading “Steelers draft local kid”
Pissing on customers….
….Is about all our local newspaper has done for the last decade. From not understanding the difference between a primary election, misleading the public on polling places, to getting local news in the paper sometime next week, there is nothing the Urinal cannot screw up. Complaining does no good because the office is closed, noContinue reading “Pissing on customers….”
