Slept through another Super Bowl today. Working overnights will do that to you. Now with no TV and no city papers in the area, I may not ever find out who won. And the local team is in the game.

No sports for January
In a new low, the Coffeyville Journal managed to go 0 for January at covering high school sports. Not one article in eight editions. And with Montgomery County Media now owning the Parsons Sun and Chanute Tribune now they own four newspapers they can make worse.
Headcount day for Kansas
Today is a big day for Kansas schools. The student count on this day determines the amount of state aid each school district gets. It also determines which class high school sports teams will compete in for the next two seasons. Locally, Caney Valley could drop from 3A to 2A. The only other area schoolContinue reading “Headcount day for Kansas”
Revival in the neighborhood
There are two abandoned churches is my neighborhood. One of them was an historically Black church where revivals were held until held until a decade ago. There will be a weekend revival this weekend. There was an article in this week’s Chronicle about the spiritual and structural revival of the church. This should be aContinue reading “Revival in the neighborhood”
Mailing it out
The publisher of the Wichita Eagle announced this week that the e-edition of the paper would be updated during the day. Back to school

Death of the daily
I haven’t read the Parsons Sun in a few months since I had no reason to go to Cherryvale, the nearest place to pick up a copy of a daily that hadn’t been ruined by the Dumholtzes. I picked up a copy on my way to the job fair today. I never got a chanceContinue reading “Death of the daily”
Mailing it in
As I went to town today, I noticed the newspaper tubes at the end of many driveways. I don’t know what they are used for since the Reporter stopped home delivery five years ago and the Urinal stopped in November 2011. When the Tulsa World stopped selling papers a year ago, the few tubes theyContinue reading “Mailing it in”
Pissing on your customers….
….and pissing off your customers. Way to go Bud Light, your latest commercial portraying your customers as buffoons in order to get them back to drinking your beer was like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. Your public relations people should be fired, then terminated.
News is supposed to be new
Our local rag, known as the Urinal, is a twice a week paper. It comes out Tuesday and Friday each week. The Kansas all classes state track meet was held last Friday and Saturday. Were there any results in the Tuesday edition? NOooo… That’s OK, the weekly Chronicle will come out tomorrow and not onlyContinue reading “News is supposed to be new”
