Coffeyville CC smoked Highland at home Saturday night 37-0. High school starts Friday. The Parsons Sun/Chanute Tribune comes out with their football preview edition tomorrow. Our local papers, I have no idea. Last time, they came out with it Saturday after high schools started play. I guess no one told them pre means before. ThisContinue reading “Football is back”

The Urinal called.
I got a letter from our local rag wanting me to resubscribe. They are offering a year (104 issues) for 25 dollars. I haven’t subscribed since they had home delivery over a decade ago. They must be desperate enough to do anything except put news in a newspaper. The paper is so bad even gettingContinue reading “The Urinal called.”
Snoozepapers
Last weekend was the Kansas State Track Meet. You would think the local daily would have had Friday’s results in the Saturday edition. Considering that they charge double for the Saturday edition, the paper has daily in its name and the sports editor is named Dailey, this shouldn’t be too much to ask. They justContinue reading “Snoozepapers”
Bad Timing
Schools in every part of Kansas are going to remote learning this week, although not every school is. They are allowed five days thie year and most are choosing to go remote now to take advantage of Monday’s MLK holiday. Some smaller districts have stopped playing games due to lack of players. Surprisingly, those thatContinue reading “Bad Timing”
Jumping the Gun
Articles in gossip magazines are written 10 to 14 days before the publication date. Betty White died December 31. I bought this at work January 3. The National Examiner could have saved themselves a lot of embarrassment had they waited a week or two before publishing this and still beat her birthday of January 17.
New Junk, Part Two
We got started setting up our new handhelds from Wallyworld. Unfortunately we got locked out of our work apps. Since this is my weekend, I will have to wait until Thursday night. Tomorrow, I have to go to the Indy library to do some research on local journalism, or the lack thereof. We have localContinue reading “New Junk, Part Two”
Strike one
The local John Deere plant is part of the nationwide strike. No mention of it in the local media. Maybe the local daily will put it in the paper sometime next week. The Urinal, which publishes two days a week, will probably never get the story in the paper. Every employee at the Urinal isContinue reading “Strike one”
Sunday Papers
Í usually go to South Coffeyville after work Sunday mornings to get breakfast and to read the out of town Sunday papers, since there is no longer a local Sunday paper. When I went to the rack at 8am, there was no Kansas City Star. I thought they pulled out of the area after readingContinue reading “Sunday Papers”
Pissing on your customers part 3
Most of the regional track meets were held last night. After work, I went and bought the local dailies, figuring the results would be in the papers. Both papers are printed in house, so this should have not been a problem. The good news was neither paper had any results. The bad news was theContinue reading “Pissing on your customers part 3”
Pissing on your customers part 2
Early Sunday mornings, I like to go to the Woodshed in South Coffeyville, OK and pick up some breakfast biscuits and get the Sunday papers. Our local papers no longer print on Sunday, so I end up getting the Kansas City Star and Tulsa World. It is bad enough both papers have gone from twoContinue reading “Pissing on your customers part 2”
