The boss is back from vacation. Now we will see how long our recent hires are going to last. I am sure some of them are not going to make it. Working overnights is not easy, but if you are willing to work and can keep a steady work rate, the place is not thatContinue reading “Prospects and suspects”

Overtime
I haven’t been working a lot of overtime at Wally World, but I may have to start. I had to replace the hot water heater which put a serious crimp in my emergency fund. I need a normal weekend to make up for last week. Next week, I will come in on one of myContinue reading “Overtime”
New Year’s surprises
I just found out this blog has been up for three years. I wish I had made more progress, but I have kept this blog up longer than the average blog. I went to buy lunch at work. I wanted to see if there was a noticeable difference in the price due to the decreaseContinue reading “New Year’s surprises”
New Year’s eve
I have to go to work on New Year’s eve tonight. I am not looking forward to working, but I am looking forward to saying good riddance to 2022.
Taming the beast
I had to go to Wally World in Coffeyville to get a new phone. When I leave work at Indy, there is no one in electronics to unlock the cabinet with the cell phones. I almost got out of Walmart with the phone when the smell of Buffalo Wings got the best of me. IContinue reading “Taming the beast”
Fleas Love Your Dog
At Wally World the canned music is a constant even on overnights. The last two nights have had Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad”. One of my former coworkers at the bottled water company told us about his sister-in-law who thought he was singing “Fleas Love Your Dog”. Yes she was blonde. I thought he might beContinue reading “Fleas Love Your Dog”
Pizza overload
Walmart tried to give us Christmas dinner this week. Unfortunately caterers are few and far between in rural Kansas and simply not available at this time of year. Fortunately Domino’s recently opened a store in Independence. For the last two days most of the overnight shift pigged out on pizza. With the cold snap IContinue reading “Pizza overload”
Holiday pay
As I posted earlier, Wally World has two holidays, Christmas and Thanksgiving. Neither of these are paid holidays. On the overnight shift we get the night before as the day off. Since I have Wednesday nights off, Thanksgiving is just like a normal week. Christmas falls on a different day of the week every year.Continue reading “Holiday pay”
Beef has taken over
My quarter beef came in a few minutes ago. It just about filled my 300 dollar freezer on sale at Wally World. I got some soup bones and an oxtail. I think I will need a second crock pot. With the dramatic cooling trend starting tomorrow night, I seeca lot of soups and stews inContinue reading “Beef has taken over”
White Christmas
The best definition of White Christmas was an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day. The year I moved to Kansas it snowed the day after Thanksgiving and was still on the ground after New Year’s Day. I was out of town over Christmas, so I missed it. There has never been aContinue reading “White Christmas”
