Lots of cold, not much snow
A week ago we were expecting six inches of snow this week. Depending on what happens tomorrow, we will have had either two or three inches. Below zero temperatures make their first appearance of the season tomorrow morning. After Wednesday things should get back to normal, with highs in the 40s and lows just belowContinue reading “Lots of cold, not much snow”
Dodging storms
We have been getting cold weather and a little bit of snow in the last week. At least we weren’t stick at work like the people at the meat packing plants in Dodge City and Holcomb. The eight inches of snow were one thing, but the wind was blowing cars off of the roads. ThrowContinue reading “Dodging storms”
Time to fire up the fireplace
With temperatures dropping below zero this weekend, it is time to get the fireplace going. Tomorrow should be in the 50s and good time to gather up loose firewood and downfall for the next week.
Winter is coming
The long range forecast shows temperatures dropping into the single digits next weekend. The plant overwintering project is over as my greens will not survive. I see salads in my immediate future.
Not snow day
It snowed just enough to cover dirt roads, but not enough to cancel or delay school. Next week there is a good chance for a snow day, the first for the kids in Montgomery County.
Wet Christmas
It has rained all day and will do so into tomorrow morning. After that, it will go back to seasonal weather with highs in the 40s and lows just below freezing. There may be a lot of water on the ground, but none of it has reached our stream and creek beds yet. Time toContinue reading “Wet Christmas”
Warm autumn
After the trace of snow we had three weeks ago it has been unseasonably warm and dry since. Even in the morning there is barely any frost on the windshield. We really need a white Christmas to get out of our current drought status but at least it is likely to be a wet one.
Snowvember
We were expecting a trace of snow but not expecting it to stick. This morning when I got off work I was surprised to find it had stuck to the roads. By the time I got home the roads were absolutely clear but the fields were not. The snow should melt today or tomorrow notContinue reading “Snowvember”
Finishing the garden up.
Sorry I haven’t posted for a month. I figure no one is reading it, so it wasn’t a big deal. I am trying to overwinter my pepper plants, so I severely trimmed them back and harvested the very last of the peppers and a stray okra Tuesday. The timing was nearly perfect because it wasContinue reading “Finishing the garden up.”
