As I near the anniversary of my move to Kansas, I often think about the years I spent in Arizona. Usually, this is prompted by the Weather Hype Channel’s drama queens talking about the temperatures in the Valley of the Sun. Yes it can get over 110 degrees during the day. The moderate humidity makesContinue reading “The worst of heat”

Still in drought
In spite of the rain we have received over the past three weeks, we are still in severe drought status according to droughtmonitor.unl.edu. The corn is head high as it should be on the fourth of July. The recent wheat harvest is a mixed bag of nuts. Weight and protein content are high, but there’sContinue reading “Still in drought”
Not so hot July
So far July is a little cooler than normal. Most summers, I would have put the window AC unit in this time of year. This is not going to happen for at least a week. My peppers are starting to set fruit, so that means I need to get the next set of seedlings started.Continue reading “Not so hot July”
Summer, you win
With the cool start in June and putting in my window fan in two weeks later than usual, I thought I might not have to replace it with the window AC unit during the Fourth of July weekend. I was mistaken.
Summer is here
The temperature hit 100 degrees today for the first time this year. There is not much chance of it getting any cooler until the end of the weekend.
Calling off work
I got a flat tire at work this morning. I managed to put enough air to get home, then fell asleep. By the time I got up it got hotter than normal. Sure enough the tire was flat and I had to put the donut tire on. I think I might have a case ofContinue reading “Calling off work”
Summer has arrived
Just a few days before solstice, warm temperatures have arrived. I bought a new window fan to replace one that stopped working this week. Today I actually needed it as the temperature reached 88 degrees. By Tuesday, it will reach the 90s on a regular basis.
Rearranging the rocks
We had a big storm last night. It was big enough to bring out the county’s road crews out for the next week to scrape the dirt roads, including the ones I live on. Some of them will get some gravel put on them. Since we are still in rainy season, the repair is shortContinue reading “Rearranging the rocks”
Crappy Sunday
Sunday I drove the box truck to Sperry, or more specifically a store in the middle of nowhere. I guess they had weather up here Saturday morning because just a mile from the store there was a trampoline that landed against a fence a quarter mile from the nearest house. The crew got the restContinue reading “Crappy Sunday”
Rain Delay Saturday
One of the reasons Tulsa Tough is held when it is, is to race in a drier time of year. In the dozen years I have been driving the box truck that supplies rest stops on the Fondo courses, we have never had rain during the Fondo races. This year we had a storm comeContinue reading “Rain Delay Saturday”
