Today is cold and tonight will be colder. After tomorrow, the weather should stay warm for quite a while. Fortunately I just used the last of the stew meat and the carrots to make the winter’s last batch of beef stew. On to grilling season!

A little less dry
The droughtmonitor.unl.edu website just released this week’s drought status update and we have improved from extreme drought to severe drought. I hope it doesn’t take an additional three months to improve to abnormally dry.
Groundhog Day
I am not into the hype surrounding Groundhog Day. But I did notice that February 2 was cloudy and cold most of the day. Any groundbogs would not have seen their shadow and the ten day forecast calls for warmer weather. Not quite spring yet, but the threat of snow is over.
Exceptional is not a good thing
For what seems like forever we are in an extreme drought. This is just above exceptional drought, the driest status. We are getting some precipitation, but not enough to make up the deficit. Here today, gone tomorrow
There is a mix of rain and snow with just enough snow to stick to the ground. With a high of 45 tomorrow it will be gone by tomorrow afternoon. The drought situation will not get any better, but at least it won’t get any worse.

The maps can be accessed at droughtmonitor.unl.edu on Thursdays after noon US CentralContinue reading “An inch of rain..”
Cold snap busted
With a high of over 40, the recent cold snap is over. Most of the snow will be gone by tomorrow. At least it melted slowly, which is kind of important when you live on a dirt road. I normally have Tuesday night off, but because of the holiday I have to go in tonight.Continue reading “Cold snap busted”
Slow going
Last night I had to go to work without a clue as to road conditions. Surprisingly the county scraped the dirt road connecting my house to the main road. The road into town was scraped, but the snow drifted back on the road in some spots. Once I got to town, the roads had notContinue reading “Slow going”
Looking a lot like Christmas
We got 2 to 3 inches of snow. With the 25-35 mph winds it is hard to keep it in one place. As you can see in the picture below the wind is blowing the snow everywhere.
