As I posted earlier, Wally World has two holidays, Christmas and Thanksgiving. Neither of these are paid holidays. On the overnight shift we get the night before as the day off. Since I have Wednesday nights off, Thanksgiving is just like a normal week. Christmas falls on a different day of the week every year.Continue reading “Holiday pay”

Back to the grind
After a long weekend, I have to go back to work tonight. The nice thing about taking two days off at the beginning of the week is coming back to a three day workweek. The two days off after will almost be like another vacation.
White Christmas
The best definition of White Christmas was an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day. The year I moved to Kansas it snowed the day after Thanksgiving and was still on the ground after New Year’s Day. I was out of town over Christmas, so I missed it. There has never been aContinue reading “White Christmas”
Christmas Bone US
In the last quarter century, the Christmas bonus has gone the way of the typewriter. I have gone from a week’s pay to a 20 dollar gift certificate to a extra discount. At Wally World we will download a code to get a one time 15% discount on most items in the store. I haveContinue reading “Christmas Bone US”
Vacation
At Wally World you can roll your vacation and 0ersonal time over to next year. I have a week of vacation time left. I will take a couple of days off this week and roll the rest over to next year. Even staying at home is better than having to go to work.

Automation has eliminated aContinue reading “Hard up for help”
Walmart shooting
People are talking about the Walmart shooting in Virginia, but not at Walmart. There has been nothing posted on the bulletin board at work and our leadership team has been quieter than usual. Considering we work the same shift as the shooter and the speed of rumor, this should be a little unsettling. But aContinue reading “Walmart shooting”
Not as gray Friday
In spite of the lack of bargains on Black Friday, there were more people than usual shopping this morning. There was a line of 30 people waiting to shop when the doors opened. When I got off work at 7am the police were arresting a shoplifter. I have to respect his dedication to stealing. MostContinue reading “Not as gray Friday”
Ho hum holiday
Dug into the cupboards to throw a few things together for dinner. Now I have to go into work tonight. We have had two event days that I managed to avoid. Tomorrow will be the big one, but I would be surprised if it amounted to anything. Black Friday wasn’t a big deal the lastContinue reading “Ho hum holiday”
Holidays
I posted earlier about not getting paid holidays. The in town garbagemen, who work for a private company, get the basic six paid holidays including Thursday. The garbagemen on my route only get Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day as paid holidays.
