It has taken a while, but local wages are finally getting of rock bottom. With Wally World offering $14 an hour, local industries can no longer pay 10 to 12 dollars an hour for hard fast paced work in sweatshop conditions. There is a new soybean oil processing plant opening up next year that willContinue reading “Wage increases”

Not Prime
Amazon Prime Days are over and I didn’t buy a thing again. This is partially because I am on a Walmart wage that doesn’t leave a lot of discretionary income, partially because I have too much junk as it is, and partially because they don’t have anything I would want. If I want something, IContinue reading “Not Prime”
Odd jobs
As I wind down my working years, I have been looking back at some of the odd jobs I have had over the years. Side hustles are not anything new among working class people with a high school education like me. Recent college graduates seem to think they have discovered moonlighting. I hate to giveContinue reading “Odd jobs”
Independence Day
Since hardly anyone has a public display of fireworks today, I decided to shoot off a few of my own. Since I work in retail, I rarely get a holiday off. In fact, this is the first time I have had Independence night off since I started working for Wally World. It will be theContinue reading “Independence Day”
Graduation season
It seems like the school year just started yesterday. Graduations start tomorrow and run through next weekend. Community Colleges end their school year today and most high schools end in two weeks. For the kids playing spring sports it may be an additional week if their teams make the state playoffs. Enjoy your time inContinue reading “Graduation season”
Marketing mitsakes
In addition to Soylent Green, Walmart now sells Liquid Death water. Maybe the woman behind the recent Bud Light campaign may be average among her peer group of marketing gurus.
Taxes Done…
…with a few hours to spare. I ended up owing big time, so I wanted to file early. I didn’t want to file this close to the deadline, but I lost some paperwork. Fortunately, April 15 fell on Saturday this year and yesterday was a holiday. Now I am broke, but got the monkey offContinue reading “Taxes Done…”
Inflation, newspaper edition
The big city papers left town just over a year ago and I miss it, just not as much as I thought. I had to go to Bartlesville and while I was there I picked up a copy. The price had gone from two to three dollars. This wouldn’t have been so bad if theContinue reading “Inflation, newspaper edition”
Weeding out the help, Part five.
Another stocker quit at Wally World the night before last. He just walked out at lunch time and never returned. He also never told anybody he was leaving. It’s not like he had another job lined up and with the economy about to take a serious dump, he may not get another. I noticed thatContinue reading “Weeding out the help, Part five.”
Gatorade Blues
There is no more Gatorade in the warehouse, so I never have to handle it again. And since the 28 ounce bottle is now $1.72 compared to the $1.16 for the 32 ounce bottle three years ago, I may never touch another bottle of Gatorade again.
